Joel Rondall Miller, passed away on December 12, 2024 at the age of 82 surrounded by his family at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield following an ongoing illness. He was born on October 12, 1942, to Clara Cox Rolle and Ronald E. Miller in the village of Pinefield, on Acklins Island, Bahamas and later moved to Nassau to New Providence, Island as a child.
Joel worked at many different jobs from his youth including selling peanuts and shining shoes. In 1966, he took an opportunity to come to the USA to study as a young man. He attended God's Bible School and College in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Greenon High School in Springfield, Ohio. In 1971 he moved to Warrington, IN where he worked for his future in-laws, Everett and Ruth Trees, at Trees Trailer Sales, as well as Everett's farm until he was hired to work for GM at Guide Lamp in Anderson, and then, Allison Transmission, Indianapolis which he retired from after 36 years.
Joel was always a hard worker and a God respecting man. He was a member of the Bahamas Holy Bible Mission in Nassau, Bahamas and was a long time attendee and supporter of the Warrington Church of the Nazarene in Warrington, IN. Joel was an avid reader, enjoyed old western movies, loved the sea, fishing, and dreamt of sailing around the Caribbean. He was a jack of all trades including masonry, wood craftsmanship, stained glass work, gardening, and grilled a mean BBQ rib.
He is survived by his wife Holly Trees-Miller of Wilkinson; four children Joel S. Miller, Jason (Stephanie) Miller, Zarah (Samarpan) Shejule, and Marilla Miller; two sisters in Nassau, Bahamas Ethel Barr, Edith Rolle, and sixteen half siblings; fifteen nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins in Nassau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, nephew, Jeffrey Litten, and niece, Pamela Copeland in Indiana and several others in Nassau.
Services will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Home Knightstown Chapel at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2024 with Pastor Ron Ferguson officiating and burial to follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2024 at the funeral home. Donations may be made in his memory to the Bahamas Holy Bible Mission.
