John Calderia

September 4, 1925 — March 11, 2010

John E. Calderia, 84, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Heritage House in New Castle. He was born September 4, 1925 in Freemont, CA the son of John Silva and Violet Calderia.

He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Army following 23 years of service. He also retired from a paper factory in Newark, CA after 19 years and moved to New Castle in 1986. He lived on Earlham Ave for 22 years before moving to the Woodlands. He loved playing Solitaire and doing Circle the Word puzzle books. He enjoyed watching football and baseball and was an avid Cubs fan. John was a great Dad, wonderful Grandpa and loved gardening and yard work.

He is survived by a son: John (wife: Connie) Calderia of New Castle; a daughter: Gail (husband: Jim) Mastin of New Castle; grandchildren: Bert (wife: Angie) Acton of New Castle, John Mastin of OK, Kevin Mastin of New Castle, Tresa (husband: David) Matthews of Fortville; great grandchildren: Aaron Henderson and Justice of New Castle, Dyllan Matthews of Fortville, Anthony Acton of New Castle; and two sisters: Rose Calderia of Mission San. Jose, CA and Dorothy Simms of Freemont, CA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Madge Calderia; brother: Richard Calderia; sister: Betty Calderia.

Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, March 15, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Paul Davis and Rick Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 12 -2 PM prior to the service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
