John E. Curtis

John E. Curtis, 79, of Mooreland passed away August 25, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Heart Hospital in Carmel. He was born October 7, 1943 in Luray, Indiana to the late John and Lillie (Humes) Curtis.

He retired from Chrysler Corp. in New Castle in 2001 following 32 years of service. John was a member of the UAW Local #371, and had been a member of the Mooreland Lions Club, Mooreland Fair Board, Mooreland Volunteer Fire Department and the Farm Couples Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, nature and the outdoors in general. He also loved mowing lawns. Love, strength, helpfulness to anyone in need, kind and caring spirit are a few words that describe John. A wonderful father, grandfather and husband, John was just a wonderful person all around!

John was a casual kind-of-guy, so feel free to dress in your casual attire for his funeral.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Barbara (May) Curtis of Mooreland; four children, Scott (Angela) Curtis of Villa Ridge, MO, Rick A. Curtis of Mooreland, Kelli (Bruce) Johnson of Modoc, Kim (Brian) Gard of Mooreland; two step children, BJ Brewer of Indianapolis and Bill (Stephanie) Mellott of Findlay, OH; 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, three brothers, Bob (Ann) Curtis of Luray, Toby (Lynn) Curtis of Luray and Tony (Rose) Curtis of Sulphur Springs; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a great grandson, Dominic; four sisters, Estella Tucker, Merle Hampton, Linda Hicks and Margaret Hunt; five brothers, Phillip, Bill, Marion, Marvin and Jack Curtis.

Services will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Gary Wallen Officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Henry County Animal Shelter, 11 Midway Drive, New Castle, IN 47362.
