John S. "Skip" Darnell

John S. “Skip” Darnell, 77, of New Castle passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023, at his home. He was born on November 27, 1945, to the late Fred Edward and Josephine Anna (Duffy) Szypulski.

Skip was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired in 2003 from General Motors after 30 years of service. Skip also worked as a security guard for 4 years and a prison guard for 3 and a half years. He was known for being a hard worker and always on the go. Skip enjoyed fishing, yard work and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers. He loved to spend time with his family and 2 special cats.

Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Sandra (Orcutt) Darnell; children, Dustin (Allie) Darnell and Veston (Crystal) Slavey; grandchildren, Grayson, Maddison, Jaylin, Emily, Joshua, Donna and Justin; several step-grandchildren; brother, Jeff Szypulski; sister, Lori Szypulski; sister-in-law, Beverly Renfro; brother-in-law, Billy Joe Orcutt; close friends, Chet and Rita.

In addition to his parents, Skip was preceded in death by sister, Nancy Szypulski; brother, Micky Szypulski; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Velma Orcutt; sister-in-law, Cherry Gayle White; sister-in-law, Stella Dee Orcutt; brother-in-law, Charles Lee Orcutt; step grandchild, Austin Downs.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, November 6, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will be at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition following the service.
