John Robert Dellinger, 91, passed away peacefully at his residence Wednesday, October 9, 2024. He was born on a farm north of New Castle, Indiana on October 15, 1932. John was the fifth child to Jacob and Clara (Snyder) Dellinger. He lived his entire life in Henry County except for when he served his country in the Korean war.
John accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1958 and was a longtime member of Whittier Lane Baptist Church. Over the years, he served the Lord in many ways; as a Sunday school teacher, church bus driver, deacon, trustee, usher and sang in the church choir.
He was a former employee of New Castle Products. He operated Dellinger Construction and Dellinger Dairy for many years. He retired in December of 2010 following 42 years as a bus driver for New Castle Community School Corporation. After retirement, he continued to work in his workshop making furniture for family and friends. At the age of 80, he started sewing, making many baby quilts and lap robes to donate to nursing homes.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Potter) Dellinger whom he married April 5, 1958; his sons, Trent (Missy) Dellinger and Mark (Lori) Dellinger; grandchildren, Amber Dellinger, Christy (Scott) Decker, Nathan Dellinger, Rebekah (Kyle) Fitzwater, Jacob (Katasha) Dellinger, Harlie Anne Dellinger and Jonathan (Hannah) Dellinger; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Cammille, Deagon, Tyler, Taylor, Mark, Evie, Jude, Clay, Annalie, Lindsay, Jason, Joab and Joanna; Former daughter-in-law, Annette (Jim) Wells; two brothers, Tom and Russell Dellinger; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Paul Dellinger; great-grandson, Cole Booher; three brothers, Kenneth, James and Larry Dellinger; six sisters, Lula Hayes, Ruth Benchani, Mary Saunders, Martha Chapman, Alice Barnett and Bertha Stillabower; two brothers-in-law, Curtis Potter and Homer Potter.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Doug Keppel and Jonathan Dellinger officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
