John R. (Jack) Elmore passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the age of 78. He was born in Smithson, Indiana on August 25, 1932 to Kenneth and Mabel Elmore.
His childhood was spent in Reynolds, Indiana before his family moved to New Castle when he was a sophomore in high school. He was a 1954 graduate of Indiana University where he majored in business and was active in the ROTC. After college he began flight training in the United States Air Force and became a fighter pilot after training in the Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star. After his military service he took a sales position with Proctor & Gamble in the Chicago area, followed by Logston’s Auto Supply, Playtex and IDS. He then worked with Henry County Abstract Company before deciding to found his own business, Jack’s Sales and Service. For the next thirty five years he performed general contracting services including electrical, plumbing and carpentry for the east central Indiana area. He employed three of his five sons in the business at various times.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Elmore; sons: Steven Elmore, Scott Elmore (wife Stacy, sons Brendan and Tyler), Dan Elmore (wife Basia), Rico Elmore (wife Oona, daughters Caitlyn and Alexis); granddaughters, Kim Major-Parker (husband Steve) and Courtney Miller; grandson Andrew Megnin; great grandchildren Marissa, Hunter, Hayden, Brandon, Jacob and close friend Chuck Shuee; sisters: Coralee Hagerty (husband Ken), Charlene Williams (husband Bob), Ronna Young (husband John) and Lana Cochran (husband Tom); He also leaves behind his constant companion, Kitty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Mick and infant daughter, Mary Ann.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Reverend Linda Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the funeral home.
