John Wayne Farmer

John Wayne Farmer, 84, a resident of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at his home following a brief illness. He was born April 7, 1940, in Clarksville, Tennessee to the late Archie and Marine (Byard) Farmer.

John attended Salem School in the Montgomery School District until he was 11 years old when his family moved to Indianapolis in 1951. He then graduated from Tech High School and attended Ivy Tech for two years. He worked at West Baking Company and Kroger Bakery for 37 years as foreman, when he retired in 2005. He faithfully attended Christian Tabernacle church for 28 years. John was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, speaking in tongues. His family speaks of what an awesome Dad he was. He was always hands on and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He participated at church camp for the last eighteen years, where he also enjoyed working as a groundskeeper. Always faithful. John always put others before himself, proving to be a Godly example to everyone he was in contact with.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Tim (Shannon) and Eric (Beth) Farmer; daughter, Pam Farmer-Hammer; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Robert “Bob” Farmer.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Christian Tabernacle Church, Indianapolis, with Pastor Kent Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Clayton Cemetery in Clayton, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
