John F. Jacobs, age 80, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 at The Waters of New Castle. He was born September 5, 1930 in Somerset, Pennsylvania to the late Albert Franklin and Minnie Pearl (Wetzel) Jacobs.
He graduated in 1950 from Somerset High School. He retired from Westinghouse following 32 years of service and from the United States Army after 22 years of service. John was a baker in the military and was one of the best pie makers around. He attended First Bible Free Will Church in New Castle and was a lifetime member of VFW. John enjoyed meeting his buddies at Bill’s Diner for breakfast. He enjoyed going home to Pennsylvania to deer hunt. He was a charter member of Springport Lions Club. John loved hunting mushrooms, gardening, picking wild blackberries and raspberries. He loved watching his grandchildren in sporting events and showing 4-H animals.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Nina (Turner) Jacobs of New Castle; children, Wayne (wife, Samantha) Jacobs of Mt. Summit, Scott (wife, Cindy) Jacobs of Shirley, IN, Larry (wife, Donna) Asberry of Jacksonville, FL. Vicki (husband, Gary) Browning of Arcadia, IN, Tana (husband, Charles) Black of New Castle, Sandra Neal of New Castle; grandchildren, Stephanie, William, Kyle, and Leah Jacobs, Dawn (husband, Jeremy) Paterson, Amy Britton, Melissa (husband, James) Kinney, Brandy Eagan, Amanda (husband, Brian) Belt, Ryan and Matthew Neal; several great grandchildren; brothers, Fred (wife, Mildred) Jacobs of Johnstown, PA, James (wife, Erma) Jacobs of Somerset, PA; sister, Martha Walker of Somerset, PA and Grace (husband, Leon) Carey of Rural Somerset, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Kevin Flannigan officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
