John Francis McGuire, 77. of New Castle passed away Monday, February 24, 2024 at the Brickyard Golden Rule in Richmond, Indiana. He was born June 14, 1947 to the late Willard and Martha (Utt) McGuire in New Castle.
John was a 1965 graduate of Spiceland High School. He then attended Friends University in Wichita, Kansas and Ball State University. He also served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War where he received a purple heart. John worked at Main and Frame Funeral Home as a Funeral directors’ assistant. He was Henry County deputy coroner and town marshall for Spiceland, Indiana. He then retired from New Castle State Correctional Facility. He enjoyed many hobbies which included fishing, golfing, woodworking, classical music and of course his grandchildren. John was a member of the New Castle American Legion and lifetime member of Spiceland Friends Church. He also attended Open Arms Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 41 years, Linda (Cleek) McGuire, whom he adored; his daughters, Lindsay McGuire (Emma) Matavuli of Bloomington, Karyn (Charles) Gordon of New Castle, Tia Riggs (Aaron Stewart) of New Castle and Tara Denney (Travis Wallen) of New Castle; son, Justin (Lynn) McGuire of New Castle; grandchildren, Grey Britton, Teagan Brown, Luke Denney, Kairi McGuire, Thailand Wade (Matt), Andrew Lindsey, Jordan Lindsey (Aubrey) and Melissa Gordon; two great-grandchildren, Graham and Averie Lindsey; siblings, Priscilla Floyd of Greenfield, Robert “Bobby” Banta of Springport and Rebecca (Larry) Ashby of Muncie; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Linda Banta, Shelby Hagerman and Mary Walden; brothers-in-law, Billy Floyd; Jack Haynes, Gary Stone and Jerry Walden.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Military rites will be conducted by the U. S. Marine Corps, American Legion and VFW. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. ~ 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
