John M. Pierce, 87, of Lewisville passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at his residence. He was born April 24, 1929 in New Castle to the late George W. and Greedle Florence (Smith) Pierce.
John grew up in a large family where he was one of eleven children. His family moved to Lewisville in the late 1940's and started the family service station. He was also employed by the Town of Lewisville. John and his brothers started gathering abandoned cars which was later turned into a business, G.W. Pierce, that they owned and operated for many years. John knew the definition of hard work and would work 10 hour days up until his early 80's. He loved racing and owned several race cars through the years. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea during the war. He was a member of Southside Church of Christ in New Castle, where he served as deacon and enjoyed passing communion. John was a family man and loved spending time with them all. He would welcome anyone to his home that needed something.
Survivors include his children, Elaine (Doug) Morgan of New Castle, Bob (Kathy) Pierce of Straughn, and Jeff (Michelle) Pierce of New Castle; grandchildren, Aaron Pierce (Jessica Wilson), Brandon (Brooke) Pierce, Amanda (Brandon) Duncan, Joseph (Ashley) Cita, Marci Pierce, and Mallory Pierce; great grandchildren, Alexis Cita, Joseph Cita, Ruby Pierce, Addyson Bass, Leo Duncan due in March, and Quinton Diamond; brothers, Rex (Ruthanne) Pierce and Marion (Sandra) Pierce; sister, Janice (Robert) Blake all of Lewisville; sisters in law, Marilyn Pierce, Louise Batson, Nora Yergin, Elsie Lawrence, Mildred Stewart, Ruth Miller, Linda Bennett and Helen Miller; brother in law, Lawrence Bow; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Euldean Pierce on December 19, 2016; a sister, Georgia Penticuff; brothers, Billy, Benny, Bobby, Paul, Dale and Haskell Pierce.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with his nephew, David Penticuff officiating. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Southside Church of Christ, 2805 S.
