John H. Rawlins, 92, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Country Home Health Care in Charlottesville. He was born February 14, 1922 in Martinsville a son of Paul and Myrtle (Kirk) Rawlins.
John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Cen-Pe-Co Lubricants following 52 years of service. He was a member of the Greenfield Lions Club, Masonic Lodge in Vincennes, Shriners, Greenfield American Legion and Eastern Star in Eden.
Survivors include seven children, Nancy (Lewis) Thompson of Spiceland, John Richard (Sheila) Rawlins of Charlottesville, Michael L. (Parnie) Rawlins of Knightstown, Margaret Rawlins (Karen Harbaugh) of Wilmington, NC, Ronald (Charlotte) Rawlins of Atwood, IL, Chris (Bruce) Carmichael of Knightstown and Teresa Brinson of Maryville, TN; twelve grandchildren, Rob (Tina) Thompson, Melinda (Terry) Broyles, Kim (Rick) Hoebel, Scott (Amy), Jeff Rawlins, Brian (Stephanie), Dawn Kauffman, Shannon (Jennifer), Ben (Sara), Casey (Stephanie) Carmichael, Cara (Ryan) Williams, and Scott Brinson; twenty great-grandchildren, Morgan, Ashley, Breanne, Britney, Terrie, Quentin, Aurora, Booker, Maya, Aaron, Austin, Brandon, Payton, Anna May, Nate, Chloe, Warren, Dustin, Dean and Walter Harvey born November 18, 2014; a great-great grandson, Colten; a sister, Ruth Hammans of Martinsville, a brother, Kenny (Dorothy) Rawlins of Martinsville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Rawlins; brothers, Maurice, Wayne, Kirk and Warren Rawlins; son-in-law, Paul Brinson.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, November 24, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Jerome Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Friends may call from 3-7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
