John Howard Stanley (formerly John Head), age 78, of Fayetteville, NC, went to be with his beloved wife in heaven on June 16, 2010.
He attended Central School, graduated from Knightstown High School in 1950, and married Marilyn Stoten in 1952. John spent 23 years in the U.S. Army. He served 1 tour in Korea, 2 tours in Vietnam, 2 tours in Germany and retired as First Sergeant with multiple awards including 2 achievement medals and 3 bronze stars. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, leather work and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sons: Michael (wife: Nancy) Stanley of St. Louis, MO and Patrick (wife: Tina) Stanley of Fuquay Varina, NC; grandchildren: Ryan (wife: Amanda) Stanley of St. Louis, MO; Asthon Patrick and JJ; great-grandchildren: Skyler, Nevin and Gavyn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, in 2005.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the Ogden United Methodist Church with Pastor Carolyn Stoten officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ogden United Methodist Church 4296 W. Old National Road Knightstown, IN 46148. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
