John Kevin Summers

John Kevin Summers, age 52, of New Castle, passed away following an extended illness, Friday, January 18, 2013 at his residence. He was born November 12, 1960 in New Castle, Indiana to Gerald J. and Carol Sue (Lewis) Summers.

A 1980 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, he was employed at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle and Kokomo since 1997. He was a member of Sons of the Legionnaires. He enjoyed golfing and was the American Legion Golf Champion in 1996. John loved riding motorcycles and enjoyed charity motorcycle rides and rallies. He was an avid outdoorsman, a knife and watch collector, and animal lover.

Survivors include his father, Gerald “Jerry” Summers; sister, Kimberly Bentley of New Castle; brother, Mark (wife, Michelle) Summers of Jacksonville, FL; nieces and nephews, Steven Bentley, Brooke (husband, Jaron) Hale, Sean Summers and Colton Summers; aunt, Pam (husband, Vernon) Criss; many beloved cousins, Jill, Bo, Teri and Toni White, Gerald Armour, Shatawn and Shannon Criss; close friends, Jeff (wife, Tracy) Viars, Kris (wife, Jenny) Kollmeyer, Todd (wife, Tammy) Eversole, Lisa Fox-Mann and Paige.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Sue Summers; grandparents, Quinlan and Florence Summers, Blanche and Grover Wills; two aunts, Joey (husband, Phil) White and Patricia Summers; cousin, Michael “Lurch” White.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in St. Anne Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the funeral home.
