John Taylor

June 6, 1924 — February 24, 2010

John W, Taylor, 85, of New Castle, entered eternal life Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield. He was born June 6, 1924 in Wilkes County, North Carolina the son of Samuel Gordon and Navadie (Hanes) Taylor.

John was a 25 year member of the Mooreland Masonic Lodge, Indiana Bankers Association and a former board member of Henry County Hospital and New Lisbon Phone Company. He retired from First United Bank of Henry County following 30 years of service. He previously attended the First Presbyterian Church of New Castle and enjoyed farming as a hobby.

He is survived by children: Elizabeth Jane (companion: Rob Hayes) Taylor both of Middletown; George (wife: Sheila) Taylor of New Castle; a sister: Ruth Walsh of North Carolina; a brother: L. B. (wife: Sue) Taylor of New Castle; grandchildren: Steven McKenzie (wife: Larissa) Taylor of Richmond; Nicole (husband: Mike) Davis of Fayetteville, North Carolina; James (wife: Angie) Hammond of Avon; Lori (husband: Wayne) Martt of Kentucky; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife: Rosemary (Hale) Taylor; 2nd wife: Jean Sorrell Taylor; a son: Stephen Lee Taylor; sisters: Pauline Walsh and Thelma Walters. Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Thomas Current officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday, February 26, 2010. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
