John Robert Winchester

John R. Winchester, 85, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 in the home of his daughter following an extended illness. He was born January 8, 1929 in New Castle, a son of the late William S. and Molly (Groce) Winchester.

An avid fisherman, John also enjoyed camping with his family for many years. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, John retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle in 1980 following 33 years of service. He was also a member of the UAW Local #371, where he served as treasurer. A member of the New Castle Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, he was also a member of Temple Baptist Church for over 50 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Rob (Nancy) Winchester of Manchester, CT, Kelli LaVoy of New Castle, and Shelli Petty of New Castle; grandsons, Jason (Mandy) Prince of New Castle, Justin (Kylee) Prince of New Castle, Camron Perkins of New Castle, and Luke Winchester of Manchester, CT; four great grandchildren, Karleigh Prince, Wesley Prince, Journey Prince, and Forrest Prince; step great grandson: Eli Hardwick Stearnes; three sisters, Angie Davidson of Tennessee, Bonnie Kyle of Tampa, FL, and Jean Wyatt of Missouri; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 64 years, Marjorie "Frances" Winchester in 2007; a grandson, Brandon Nicholson; brothers, Tommy, Sammy, Joe, and George Winchester; sisters, Martha Lemieux, Ruth Armes, and Margaret Ford.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
