John E. Young, 87, of New Castle, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Henry Community Health. He was born on December 30, 1936 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Bevel and Stella Mae (Rymer) Young.
John was a talented musician. He enjoyed playing gospel music in a variety of places. He could play almost any instrument with strings but his favorite instrument was the steel guitar. In the 70's John could be found with his buddy, in Sonny Earhart's garage, cranking out the tunes to Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and Johnny Cash. Learning these songs gave the guys an opportunity to play music in various clubs throughout the town of Chesterfield and the city of Anderson. John also enjoyed playing in gospel bands and toured the state for a brief time with the J.D. Bell family in the 80's. John enjoyed playing music for various local churches. He shared his steel guitar and electric guitar talents during worship services wherever there was a need.
Apart from music, John also enjoyed being with his family and friends. Almost every summer he could be found at the Frankfort Camp Ministries family camp. He was serious about his relationship with Jesus Christ and it was his heart's desire for all of his family and friends to know Jesus! John was a veteran of the US Air Force proudly serving his country from 1954-1959.
