John “Jack” Lay, Sr., 73, of Knightstown, took God’s hand when He heard Him call on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield after a lengthy illness. He was born May 5, 1939 in Indianapolis the son of Orville and Cornelia (Young) Lay.
Jack retired from Lucent Technologies “Western Electric” in Shreveport, LA after 42 years of service. A veteran of the United States Marine Reserves, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a faithful member of the Kennard Baptist Church and a former member of Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport. He loved mowing, gardening and tinkering.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 32 years, Roberta “Bertie” Lay; children: Jerry Lay of Shirley, John & Debra Lay of CA, Jamie & Trevor Hellmich of Greensburg, Brian & Wendi Ratliff of Knightstown, Brad & Angela Ratliff of Ft. Wayne, and Brett & Annie Ratliff of Knightstown; 2 brothers: Don & Phyllis Lay of FL, Ted & Stephanie Lay of Greenwood; 13 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother & father-in-law: Charles & Lucille Howard.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, December 21, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randall Morris officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Thursday.
