Joseph "Jay" Davis

Joseph W. "Jay" Davis, 84, of New Castle, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 in IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born February 19, 1929 in Albany, KY, a son of the late Lige and Naomi (Guffey) Davis.

Jay retired from Brooks Foods in Mt. Summit, where he worked for 44 years, with 36 years in supervision. He attended Memorial Wesleyan Church in New Castle. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Jerry (Sheila) Davis of Chattanooga, TN; a daughter, Sheila Sorey of TN; step daughter, Sandra Wallen (Bill Vivian) of Springport ; step son, Donnie (Teresa) Blevins of Springport; nine grandchildren, Deb (Mike) Limle of Muncie, Tina (Drew) Rowland of Muncie, Scott ( Sheila) Davis, of New Castle, Jeff (Dawn) Davis of New Castle, Trey Sorey of TN, Crissi (Jerry) Roberts of TN, Duke (Megahan) Davis of TN, Amy (Darrell) Cooley of GA, and Penny (Tom) Jenkins of Springport, who was Jay's beloved granddaughter; fifteen great grandchildren, including Mike and Kierstyn Jenkins of Springport whom he adored; siblings, J. Marie Moran, Claude E. (Pat) Davis, Edna G. Lowe, Lillian R. (Danny) Lowe, Ernest E. (Denise) Davis, Jerry D. (Brenda) Davis, Connie (Russ) Cheesman and Bonnie Roseberry, all of New Castle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, siblings, James Earl Davis, Obie C. Davis and Donna Denney.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Paul Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Christian Cemetery in Springport. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the funeral home.
