Joseph Michael Peggs

August 6, 1967 — February 12, 2025

Cambridge

Joseph Michael Peggs, 57, of Cambridge City, formerly of Knightstown, passed away in a tragic accident on February 12, 2025. He was born in Rush County on August 6, 1967 to Myra (Mattix) Wills and Harvey Peggs.

Joe was a 1986 graduate of Knightstown High School and attended Ball State University. He was self-employed and most recently worked in the tree service and agri-business industry. Joe was heavily involved in Knightstown youth sports. He ran the Knightstown Little League for several years as well as the Knightstown Youth Optimist. He enjoyed several outdoor activities including golf, riding his Harley, fishing and hunting. His favorite activity was coaching and following his son Drake’s baseball career.

Joe did not know a stranger and lit up the room with his smile and laugh. His witty, smart aleck sense of humor gave everyone years of laughter and entertainment. He was the life of the party. His personality was infectious and the impact he had on people was long lasting and profound. He loved just hanging out with family and friends. Joe was the “Norm” of the No. 9 Grill in Cambridge City. He always lent a helping hand to his family, friends and neighbors. His big heart will leave a huge hole in everyone’s life who knew him. Joe will be remembered as a great father, loyal sibling, community servant and true friend.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Drake Peggs (fiancé, Maggie McCullough) of AL; former wife, Melissa Peggs of Knightstown; step children, Devin Silver of Indianapolis, Dillon (Abby) Silver of Knightstown, Amanda (Jayden) Elkins of Bedford; parents, Myra Wills (companion, James Jones) of Knightstown; father, Harvey (Susan) Peggs of Rushville; siblings, Sonya (Stewart) Fontaine of Breckenridge, CO, Dr. Cara Peggs (Dr. Troy Payner) of Indianapolis, Bryan (Jolinda) Peggs of Knightstown, and Julia (Michael) Reydell of Cambridge City; step siblings, Scott (Teena) Seibel of New Castle and Sherry (Chris) Woolston of Rushville; grandchildren, Jaxon and Mason Elkins, Rhett Silver and Lainey Silver; he also had several nieces and nephews; special friend Angela Foster of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Albert L. Wills.
