Joseph Richard Tyler, 92, of Clear Lake, IN and formerly of Marion, IN and New Castle, IN passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday October 14, 2017.
He is survived by Daughter Emily Jo (Tyler) McCall, Clear Lake, Bonnie Dean Cook (Fred) of New Castle; Son Eric Sims Tyler (Kit) also of Clear Lake and Nephew Jeff Lowe (Cammy) of Walloon Lake MI. He was preceded in death by his parents John & Mary, Wife Beverlee (Raber) and son John Lindsey (Joyce), Granddaughter Mary-Alexis McCall, Great Grandson Brandon Harvey and, Niece Kyrla Lowe. Mr. Tyler also leaves 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was a Member of Holy Family Episcopal Church in Angola and also Gethsemane and St. James Episcopal Churches in Marion and New Castle. Mr. Tyler served in the church leadership vestry in these churches. He was a devout Christian and a choir member of all three churches. He attended Indiana University, was a member of the Golf Team and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He remained a dedicated fan of IU Basketball through thick and thin years and enjoyed watching the Hurrying Hoosiers. During his time at Clear Lake he enjoyed his participation in the Clear Lake Lions Club and the fundraising efforts of the club. He enjoyed Barbershop Quartet Singing in Marion; was an avid golfer and enjoyed a round of golf at St Andrews with Grandson Scot. Having been bit by the travel bug he visited Europe on several occasions, Nova Scotia, Western Canada and traveled to most of the contiguous 48 states. He also spent many afternoons on the deck enjoying his view of Clear Lake with his neighbors and friends during the summer months as well as sailing on Clear Lake. He worked for US Fiber Corp (Green Fiber) of Delphos OH as VP of Marketing. At the age of 87 he took “early retirement” from Koher Advertising of Ft Wayne, IN. He was a devoted Son, Husband & Father possessed of a heart of gold, a wry and sometimes uproarious sense of humor. He was an ornery, happy man, and remained so to his final day.
Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at South Mound Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be sent to Holy Family Episcopal Church, 909 S. Darling Street, Angola IN 46703.
