Joseph Newsom White, Carthage, Indiana passed away at the age of 101 on January 26. He was born June 9, 1912.
Joseph spent his entire life in the community. Joe was a retired farmer. He attended Purdue University. He belonged to the Kiwanis Club and was very active in the Knightstown Friends Church. He was on the board at White's Institute for many years. Joe and his wife, Marian, traveled extensively and he had visited six continents, including a missionary trip to Kenya at the age of 94. He enjoyed spending winters in Port Lavaca, Texas for many years. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed dearly by his family.
Survivors include two sons, Donald (Mary) White of Hanover, MI and Louis White of Bloomfield, Indiana; four grandchildren, Joseph (Ginger) White of Jackson, MI, Leigh White (spouse, Ed Busch) of Haslett, MI, Brandon White of Sarasota, FL and Jason White of Aurora, CO; four great-grandchildren, Emma and Sophie Busch and Kyle and Justin White; a brother, Phillip (Mary Lib) White of Rushville; and a sister, Bettie Butler of Marion IN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Goldsberry White and a son, Wayne.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Tim Basford officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the funeral home.
