Joseph Edward Yanos

November 19, 1932 — October 8, 2015

Joseph Edward Yanos, age 82, of rural Cambridge City, passed away at home on Thursday, October 8, 2015. He was born November 19, 1932 in Douglassville, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph and Catherine Yanos.

He graduated from Amity High School in 1950 and was married to Anna Angstadt on January 30, 1954. They were engaged in dairy farming in the eastern Pennsylvania area until 1970 when Joe was able to pursue his lifelong dream of farming flatter, richer Midwestern soils and giving his sons the chance to farm without the suburban sprawl of his birthplace. The family moved to Henry County, south of New Lisbon, where 2 sons, a son-in-law and several grandsons are engaged in farming today. Joe’s love was farming, but he and Anna had spent the winter time in Florida for years enjoying new friends, playing cards and living an active life away from Indiana winters. He had served earlier on the board of directors of Farmer’s Grain Company in Wayne County and was active for a period in the New Lisbon Lions Club. Joe loved to spend evenings on his front porch watching the farm activities and overlooking the crops. Joe and Anna also enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, Europe, South America and Australia.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Anna Yanos of rural Cambridge City; sons, J. Edward (Susan) Yanos, Jr. of rural Cambridge City, Gerald L. (Janice) Yanos of rural Straughn; daughter, Patricia (James) Wenning of rural Cambridge City and son, Neal (Elizabeth) Yanos of Temperance, MI; brother, Robert Yanos of Douglassville, PA; grandchildren, Katie (Jeff) Trotta, Allison Yanos, Bryan (Natalie) Yanos, Eric (Callie) Yanos, Jillian (Mark) Ristow, Bridgette (Michael) Wanhainen, Emily Yanos, Amy (Johnathon) Neuenschwander, Mark (Jessica) Wenning, David Wenning, Rachel Wenning, Dan Yanos and Joe Yanos; great grandson, Dylan Yanos.

Joe and Anna were very proud of their children and grandchildren, especially that all thirteen grandchildren are college graduates (or soon to be).
