Joyce N. Edwards, 84, of Carthage passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at Hancock Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born November 8, 1931 in Springport, IN to the late Ernest and Esther (Sommerville) Evans.
Joyce was a 1949 graduate of Mt. Summit High School. She played the drums in band and later played in the JP band in New Castle. She retired in 2005 following 31 years of service as the cook at Carthage Elementary School. Joyce loved cooking for the kids and the kids loved her cooking, especially her famous yeast rolls. She was a faithful member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church and later attended Carthage Community Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends, going out to eat, ice cream, big band music and watching hummingbirds.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 60 years, Jerry Edwards of Carthage; daughters, Carol Edwards of Indianapolis, Sandy Edwards of Carthage; grandchildren, Taylor Edwards, Lindsay Edwards, Robbie Edwards, Ashley (Joe) Heller; sister, Joan (Bill) Hedges of LaBelle, Florida; daughter in law, Mary Edwards of Rushville; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Larry Edwards.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Roger Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carthage Community Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
