Kathryn M. McQueen, beloved wife and mother, passed away Friday, at age 71, March 10, 2023 at her residence in Farmland following an extended illness. She was born December 16, 1951 in New Castle, a daughter of the late L. Paul and B. Edna (Choate) Carter.
A 1970 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School, Kathy received a full-ride scholarship and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Ball State University. She taught at Delta Middle School before retiring from Monroe Central High School as an Art teacher following nearly 30 years of work. While at Monroe Central, she received several awards including Teacher of the Year.
Kathy loved to laugh and tell stories. An excellent cook, she also was a superb baker and enjoyed using her creative skill to make jewelry, paint works of art, as well as China and furniture painting. She and her husband, Greg, enjoyed making their daily golf-cart rounds to check on their garden that she enjoyed working in. She also loved to travel and her trips to France with Greg and her daughters were highlights.
She leaves behind, her husband of nearly 47 years, Greg McQueen of Farmland, IN; two daughters, Ellen (Brett) Slama of Carmel, and Amanda (Tim) Green of Anderson; a brother, George (Zeta) Carter of New Castle, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Thompson and Margaret Hall; and three brothers, Joe, Bill, and Donnie Carter.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Dr. Phil Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. noon until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
