Kathy “Kat-Lou” Guffey, 66, of New Castle passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born July 11, 1949 in New Castle to the late Parris “Burhead” and Jacqueline (Vores) Neal.
Kathy was the first woman professional Harley-Davidson drag racer through the American Motorcycle Racing Association. When she was off the track, Kathy enjoyed gardening, yard work, crafting and decorating her yard for all holidays. She was a member of the Kennard Eastern Star and had been employed by Western Electric-Modern Bell.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Russell Guffey; daughter, Cindy Lynn (Jeremy) Polston of New Castle; step children, Kim (Gus) Diehr of Greenfield, Carla Guffey of Mooreland and Lance Russell (Krista) Smith of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Brittany Polston, Harley (Cody Wise) Polston, Samantha Polston, Eli and Emily Diehr, Dalton and Isaac Guffey, Briley, Bracken and Ava Smith; great grandchildren, Alexa Lance, Brantley Wise; siblings, Gene (Judy) Neal, Claude (Barbara) Neal, Cindy (Dennis) Tompkins; several nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Polly Mix, Leanne Neal and a niece, Crystal Neal.
The family would like to thank Henry County Hospice, Jason Hamby RN, Jim Wright RN, Rhonda Crisp and Dr. Westmoreland for their exceptional care.
Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. Motorcyclists are encouraged to ride their bikes to the service.
