Kenneth Clyde Powers, age 82, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at his residence. He was born March 11, 1931 in Whitley County, Kentucky to the late Joseph Franklin and Lillie Bell (York) Powers.
He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1954-1956. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in December 1996 following 31 years of service and had previously been employed at Modernfold Corporation for 12 years. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist Minister at the age of 75. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Spiceland. At the age of 71, he completed the R.A.I.N. bike ride across the State of Indiana. An avid gardener, he also enjoyed bicycle riding, traveling and attending gospel concerts. Clyde loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Alice (Burden) Powers; a son, Clyde Kenneth (Kathy) Powers of New Castle; two grandchildren, Lori (Brent) Lucas of New Castle and Lisa (Jay) Richmond of Indianapolis; great grandchildren, Sarah and Jacob Lucas, Addison and Ella Richmond; sister, Ellen Guy of Crossville, TN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends John Franklin and Larry Delon officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at the funeral home.
