L. Howard “Hab” Murphy, age 76, went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 21, 2013. Hab was born August 19, 1936 in Cumberland County, Kentucky the son of William A. and Jane (Radford) Murphy.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a devoted Christian and loved his church family at Memorial United Baptist Church, where he held many offices including trustee, song leader and Sunday school teacher. He retired from the Henry County Highway Department.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce (Lee) Murphy; children, Kim (Mike) Wilson of Martinsville, Kay (Mark) Collins of Muncie, Audie Murphy of Muncie and Alan (Tina) Murphy of Mooresville; grandchildren, Amanda (Brent) Waters of Terre Haute, Matt Collins of Muncie and Sierra Murphy of Mooresville; great grandchildren, Kayleah and Baby Waters of Terre haute; brother, James “Cletus” Murphy of Kentucky; sister, Kathy Scott of Kentucky; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Leonard Howard Murphy, Jr.; parents William and Jane Murphy; brothers, Burnal “Spud” Murphy and Walter “Cotton” Murphy.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Ron Black officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial United Baptist Church, 2911 S Phillip Dr., Muncie, IN 47302-3937 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
