Lance Monroe Pence

Lance Monroe Pence, 53, of Hagerstown passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Reid Hospital.  He was born May 10, 1970 in Henry County to Jerry and Patricia (Dick) Pence.

Lance, a 1988 graduate of Hagerstown High School, pursued many careers until he found his passion for nursing by earning a Bachelor of Nursing degree from IU East in 2012. He has worked at Henry County, Eskenazi Health, and Dayton Good Samaritan Hospital before finding a home at Reid Health providing compassionate care to patients. His involvement with Freemasonry was extensive. As the Senior Warden of Lewisville Lodge, # 72. Additionally, being a member of the Scottish Rite showed his commitment to furthering his knowledge and understanding of Freemasonry's teachings and rituals. 

Lance had a variety of interests, from hunting ducks, deer, geese, quail, and pheasants to camping, riding motorcycles, playing the guitar, and gardening. He was a member of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association. His passion for the outdoors and his diverse hobbies made him a well-rounded individual with a deep connection to nature and adventure. He had the ability to build and fix things showcasing his handy skills. He took great pride in building the home he and Tara live in. However, his true joy comes from spending time with his beloved family and grandchildren, and his four-legged companions, Scout (his prized hunting dog), Gracie, and Duke.

He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Tara (Lovett) Pence; sons, Alex (Madison) Pence, Andrew (Emily) Pence, David (Molly) and T.J. ; grandchildren, Carter Monroe Pence, Callee Kay Pence, Hayden Pence, Waylon Pence, Hudson Hayes; parents, Jerry and Patrica Pence; mother and father-in-law, Dave (Valerie Lovett and Donna Lovett; brother-in-law, Scott (Megan) Lovett, several nieces, nephews and close friends.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George Monroe and Marguerite Pence; sister, Angela Pence, maternal grandparents, Orville and Aletha Dick. 

Masonic services will be held at 10:00 a.m.with funeral ceremony following on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Paul Gearhardt officiating. Burial will follow in New Lisbon Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday, April 12th at the funeral home.  You may express condolences or share a memory of Lance at www.hinsey-brown.com.
