Larry Alsip

Larry R. Alsip, 58, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 16, 2009. He was born April 7, 1951 in New Castle, a son of Ross T. and Emma H. (Davidson) Alsip.

Larry was a 1969 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School where he played varsity baseball. He also graduated in 1975 from Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. He also played football for Ball State where he was named their Most Valuable Player and was in the Theta Psi Fraternity. He was a substitute teacher for many years and was an ISHAA referee for over 25 years for high school basketball. Presently employed at Metaldyne, he had formerly worked for Chrysler Corporation and Borg Warner in Muncie. He was a member of Crossroads Church in New Castle. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards, playing intramural baseball/softball and he truly loved his children.

He is survived by his wife, Vicky Alsip of New Castle; daughters, Darcy Alsip of Fishers and Taylor Jade Alsip of New Castle; a son, Tanner Ross Alsip of New Castle; his mother, Emma H. Alsip of New Castle; three sisters, Carolyn Abbott of Knoxville, TN, Pam Marcum of New Castle and Sally (husband: Ronnie) Hall of Summerville, GA; a brother, Duane (wife, Kim) Alsip of Anderson; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ross Alsip and a sister, Nancy Alcorn.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 at Crossroads Church in New Castle with Pastor Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church on Monday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Taylor and Tanner Alsip Education Fund with envelopes available at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
