Larry Ray Back

Larry Ray Back, 81, of Knightstown passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 at his residence. He was born October 15, 1942 in Shirley, Indiana to the late Clarence and Faith (Richmond) Back.

Happy… Loving… Dedicated… These are just some of the words that describe Larry. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others smile. Larry married the love of his life on September 27, 1962, Janice Johnson. They spent over 61 wonderful years together. Larry adored everything about Janice. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a religious man, attending Kennard Baptist Church. Larry spent 30 years working at Delco Remy before retiring. He was affectionately known as “Poppy”, loved bluegrass music, eating and playing the guitar. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice Back; children, Steve (Teresa) Wright, Dawn (Boyd) Duncan, Toby (Michelle) Back, Jeff (Michelle) Back and Missy (Donnie) Gross; grandchildren, Heather (John) Herbert, Jacob Back, Taylor (Jordan) Scott, Andrew Duncan, Jordan (Kimberly) Back, Hannah (Clayton) Creekmore, Dalton (Tandi) Wright, Levi Back, Holden Gross, Gavin Back, Elijah Back and Aiden Back; great grandchildren, Luke Herbert, Jase Duncan, Maks Herbert, Kinsley Duncan, Ava Herbert, Lily Back, Tyler Bryan, Karter Wright, Eleanor Wright, Alex Hornaday and Tucker Messer; brother-in-law, Robert Pugh and a niece and nephew.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Garnet Pugh.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery with military honors conducted by contingents from the American Legion Post 152 and the U.S. Army. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
