New Castle

Larry W. Brayton, 72, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 at his home with his family at his side. He was born December 6, 1951 in New Castle, a son of the late Charles and Osie (Sparks) Brayton.

Larry graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1969. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle. A member of Mt. Summit Christian Church for many years, he served on the Board of Directors for REMC, was a member of the Henry County Rose City Riders, and served on the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department alongside his dad for many years.

A certified small engine mechanic, Larry worked on lawnmowers and other small engines for many years. He also served as a substitute teacher for several years, which he dearly loved.  He served on the Henry County Board of Zoning Appeals and was active in the Democrat Party for many years, running for county commissioner in 2012.

Larry enjoyed camping on the Ohio River for over 20 years, riding his motorcycle, knew almost everyone, and would do anything for anyone in need.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, whom he married July 3, 1976, Jackie Brayton of New Castle; sister-in-law, Teresa Justice of New Castle, his “special kids” who called him Pap, Kyle and Hillary Edington of New Castle, and their children, Kylie, Kyson, and Kynnedi Edington of New Castle;  nieces and nephews, Charles Williamson of New Castle, Sheryl Justice (Sean Ward), Cindy (Brandon) Smith of Middletown, Dustin (Kynsie) Justice of Middletown, Paige Justice of Muncie; several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Brayton II; his in-laws, Jack and Jean Justice; his brother in law, Danny Justice, and a special aunt, Norma Brayton.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Mt. Summit Christian Church with Pastors James Petty and Justin Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m at the church on Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Mt. Summit Christian Church, P.O.
