Larry Gene Delon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pastor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2025, in Greenfield, Indiana, at the age of 76. Born on August 2, 1948, in New Castle to James and Rosalind Delon, Larry lived a life full of love, faith, and devotion to his family and community.
For 58 cherished years, Larry was the steadfast partner of his wife, Jennifer Delon. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and care. He was a proud father to Angela Willis (David) and Shane Delon (Julie). His greatest joy came from being a grandfather to Caleb Willis (Kinsey Dyan), Jacob Willis (Shelby), and Bailey Delon. He was also a great-grandfather to Joshua Willis with another great grandchild expected to join the family he so dearly loved. Larry’s family extended to his dear sisters, Phyllis Woolard (Steve) and Barbara Thompson (Ken), his brothers-in-law John Sweigart (Alice) and Randall Sweigart along with numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Larry’s life was marked by service, dedication, and a wonderful sense of humor that brought light to every room he entered. After retiring from Dana Corporation, he poured his heart into his calling as pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church in Spiceland, Indiana, where he faithfully shepherded his congregation for 27 years. His unwavering commitment to his faith and his flock left an indelible mark on all who knew him. A devoted family man, Larry’s love shone brightest in the quiet moments—whether sharing a hearty laugh with his grandchildren or offering a kind word to a friend in need.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor David Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 pm Monday, March 31 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Smyrna Baptist Church in Spiceland, Indiana, a place so dear to Larry’s heart. His legacy of love, faith, humor, and generosity will live on in the lives he touched. You may express condolences or share a memory of Larry at www.hinsey-brown.com.
