Larry Bowers Hammond

Larry Bowers Hammond, 66, of New Castle passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Heritage House following an extended illness. He was born February 13, 1945 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Homer and Helen (Bowers) Hammond.

Larry was a 1963 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School in New Castle. He served in the National Guard from 1966 to 1972. He attended Earlham College and Ball State University. He served an apprenticeship at Chrysler Corporation and was a journeyman pipe fitter retiring in 1995 after over 30 years of service. He was a member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge #91, past member of the Scottish Rite and White Shrine. He was a member of the UAW Local #371. He attended Smyrna Baptist Church in Spiceland.

He is survived by his wife whom he married June 5, 1965: Darlene Hammond of New Castle; three children: Bryan (wife: Karen) Hammond of Indianapolis, Kelly (fiancé: Rex Carter) Hammond of Mishawaka, Brandon (wife: Stacy) Hammond of New Castle; six grandchildren: Brittany Burns (fiancé: Ben Burris) and Andrew Burns, Kevin and Kristin Hammond, Blake and Brooklyn Hammond; sisters-in-law an brothers-in-law: JoAnn and Larry Lawson, Katy and Danny Walker, Marty Dishman, and Doug Dishman (companion: Linda Bowers); aunts: Juanita Hammond and Evelyn Hammond both of New Castle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents a brother: Homer John Hammond; and a brother-in-law: Gary Dishman.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Larry Delon officiating, with a Masonic service being conducted.
