M. Leah “Lizzie” Smith, 84 of Spiceland died unexpectedly at her residence Thursday, December 30, 2010. She was born June 14, 1926 in Byrdstown, Tennessee a daughter of the late Porter and Fannie (Evans) Harmon.

She had lived in Spiceland for the past 30 years and lived in Mays for 26 years prior. She had worked at Western Electric and the Indiana Soldiers & Sailors Children’s Home. A member of Western Electric Sympathy Club, Leah had attended Knightstown Church of God. She enjoyed crocheting, spending time with her family, and dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include a son: Mikel Smith of Gas City; two grandsons: Dennis (wife: Shellie) Smith and Erik (wife: Lori) Smith, all of Gas City; three great grandsons Garrison, Gannon and Barron Smith; three great granddaughters: Sophia, Lauren and Landrie Smith; two sisters: Velma Harmon of Muncie and Juanita Kauffman of Selma and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Norman D. Smith; a son: Mitchell Lane Smith; daughter-in-law: Regina Smith; two brothers Floyd & Chester Harmon; and two sisters: Louise McKinley and Lakie Poore.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Friends may call from 4-8 Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Spiceland Town Township Public Library, P.O.
