Lela June Lovegrove

June 1, 1938 — May 22, 2024

New Castle

Lela June Lovegrove, 85, of Muncie, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 while surrounded by her family. She was born on June 1, 1938 in Whitestown, IN a daughter of the late Jewell Irving and Oka Lela (Martin) Padgett.

Lela June was woman of faith her entire life who fiercely loved God, her family, friends, and gospel music.

June enjoyed church activities, spending time with loved ones, or both, especially when music was involved. She was a piano player having the gift of hearing a song and being able to play it by ear. One of her treasured accomplishments was naming the gospel sing, Jubilation Celebration.

A devoted wife of nearly 70 years to Loren C, June was also a loving mother, an extraordinary Mommaw, as well as being an amazing sister, aunt, and friend to so many. She enjoyed being a homemaker to the fullest extent, making sure anyone and everyone were well fed, body and soul. She was exceptional at cooking, canning, and using her eye for creativity making floral arrangements for anyone who had a special occasion or just because. A true prayer warrior, her prayers, faith, and love for the Lord were unmatched as she prayed ever so fervently, for so many of us. No words can express how much June was loved by anyone who knew her especially her family.

Lela is survived by her two daughters, Linda Joseph of Muncie and Lora (David) Holmes of Muncie, eleven grandchildren, Jessica (Mark) Terry of Nashville, TN, Joshua (Yolanda) Lovegrove of Anderson, Shafik (Nancy) Joseph of New Castle, Melissa Ratliff of Muncie, Christy Pearson (Tom Heiliger) of Bloomington, Sammy (Danielle) Joseph of Muncie, Terry “TJ” (Chrystal) Lovegrove of Selma, Brandon (Jessica) Holmes of Waco, Texas, Jeremy (Erica) Holmes of Fairlawn, Ohio, Corie Sargent of Muncie,  and Lacey (Michael) Conley of Muncie; twenty great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Martha) Padgett of Westport; sister-in-law, Enola Padgett of Dupont; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Loren C. Lovegrove; son, Steve Lovegrove; grandsons, Jared Holmes and Luke McGrew; siblings, Duane Padgett, Naomi Burkman, Reba Huffman, Donald Padgett and Dwight Padgett.

We would like to thank the Hospice team with Henry County Hospice for the loving care each one of them gave to our mom and mommaw. Also, a thank you to Glad Tidings church for their supportive visits and prayers.
