Leland “Red” Perdew, age 82, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was born March 27, 1930 in Monticello, Kentucky to the late Everett and Bess (Massengale) Perdew.
He retired from Firestone in Noblesville after 35 years of service and was also a bus driver for New Castle Community Schools for over 20 years. He liked farming and visiting Kentucky, and enjoyed lawn work, gardening and riding his Harley Davidson.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margaret Perdew of New Castle; three sons, Randy (wife, Paula) Perdew of New Castle, Rodney (wife, Pamela) Perdew of New Castle and Steve (wife, Teresa) Perdew of Rushville; five grandchildren, Gabby Perdew, Austin Perdew, Tanner Perdew, Mistima Perdew and Sabrina Perdew; step grandchildren, Michael Agee, Janet Isaacs and Carolyn Isaacs; six great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Lou (husband, Dempsey) Bruton of New Castle; brothers, Gail Perdue of New Castle, Frank Perdue of Monticello, KY and Rex Perdue of Troy, OH; sister-in-law, Doris Perdue of Monticello, KY; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hack Perdue and Billy Perdue; sister, Christine Perdue; step grandson, Robin Isaacs.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Bill Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
