Leroy Davis

Leroy Davis, age 83, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born August 14, 1928 in Duvall Valley, Kentucky to the late James Robert and Ova (Massengale) Davis.
He retired from Ingersoll Steel in New Castle following 30 years of service. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church in New Castle for many years, and was also a member of Steelworkers Union. He loved playing the harmonica and banjo and listening to bluegrass gospel music. He also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Davis of New Castle, whom he married October 15, 1987; five children, Jerry (wife, Beth) Davis of Greenfield, Lonnie Davis of Jeffersonville, IN, Barbara (husband, Phil) Groce of New Castle, Lucille Williams of New Castle and Wilma (husband, Jerry) May of Jeffersonville, IN; five step-children, Judy (husband, Ronnie) Henemyre of Albany, KY, Jimmy (wife, Kathy) Tallent of Knightstown, Margaret (husband, Roy) Moore of New Castle, Carol Tallent of New Castle and Cathy (husband, David) Simpkins of New Castle; five grandchildren; twenty step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; fifteen step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Wright of New Castle and Shirley (husband, Raymond) Clevenger of Straughn; four brothers, Hubert (wife, Charlene) Davis of AR, Ralph Davis of Terre Haute, Reverend Carl (wife, Edith) Davis of Brazil, IN and Gene (wife, Reva) Davis of AR; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Della Davis; a grandson, Jerry Michael May and a son-in-law, William O. Williams; a sister, Geneva Irene Wright; three brothers, Ross, C.T. and Ira Davis.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at the First Apostolic Church in New Castle with Reverend John D. Beck, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
