Colonel Leslie A. Scrogham, Jr., age 72, of Pendleton, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at his residence. He was born November 13, 1942 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Leslie A. and Opal (Razor) Scrogham, Sr.
Col. Scrogham retired from the Indiana Dept. of Corrections on November 1, 2008 where he had served since 1965. He had also worked at ISP, ISR, RDC, and Central Office, Special Assignments to CIF, IBS and North Central Juvenile. He had also served as a Psychiatric Nursing Attendant and as a Watershed Surveyor/Mapping Specialist for the USDA serving more than 44 years in government service.
A Master Mason, he was a member of the York Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star, National FOP, US Deputy Warden Association and the Pendleton Christian Church. Les was past associate guardian of Job's Daughters in Plainfield and Pendleton and belonged to APCO. He was also a member of FOP Lodge #132 in Plainfield. He was awarded the Distinguished Hoosier Award. He loved spending time with family and enjoyed shooting guns.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sandi (Morgan) Scrogham, whom he married December 17, 1966; a daughter, Steffani (Bill) Scrogham-Cross; a sister; Carolyn (Merrill) Coffin of Mooreland; a brother: Phillip (Gwen) Scrogham of Fortville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Gary and Susan Morgan of Sarasota, Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Leslie A. Scrogham III; brother, Harry Scrogham; two sisters, Beverly Ann Hershman and Rachel Scrogham.
Masonic services will be at 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will be in Woodlawn Christian Cemetery in Springport at a later date.
