Letha S. Taylor, age 88, of Greensburg and most recently New Castle, died Friday morning, September 11, 2009 in the Woodlands at Forest Ridge following a lengthy illness. A Greensburg resident most of her life, Mrs. Taylor graduated from Hope High School and St. Vincent’s Nursing School in Indianapolis. She was a retiree of Decatur County Memorial Hospital in 1996 where she worked 31 years as a registered nurse and Directors of Nursing. Mrs. Taylor was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg and St. Anne’s Catholic Church in New Castle. She was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, and volunteered with 4-H in Decatur County and Decatur Co. Hospice. Born May 22, 1921, in Columbia, KY, she was a daughter of the late Virgie McGaha. Mrs. Taylor married the love of her life, Arthur Taylor, February 26, 1946 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage together. He preceded Letha in death in 1996. In addition to Arthur and her parents, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by two sisters, Aileen and Suzy. Mrs. Taylor loved nursing, enjoyed traveling and was always supportive to her children and grandchildren. She loved to be involved in life. Known by many in New Castle as “Grandma”, Letha could be found at several school functions leading the applause or working behind the scenes. Grandma Taylor will be remembered as a loving person who always had her heart and home open to anyone in need. She is survived by three daughters: Judy Hubbard (husband Bill) and Jaci Hadsell (husband Bob) both of New Castle and Jane Taylor of Pomona, CA; one son, Jerry Taylor of Morocco, IN. Six grandchildren: John Hubbard, Kyle Taylor, Carol Hubbard, Megan Pino (husband Garrett), Jessica Hadsell and Andrea Hadsell and one Great Granddaughter, Isabella Pino. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle officiated by Father Joe Rautenberg and Sister Shirley Gerth. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana. Friends may call for visitation from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Letha S. Taylor Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o Henry County Community Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
