Lewis Merchant, 100, of Knightstown passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at St. Vincent Anderson. He was born August 30, 1922 in Maxwell the son of James Merchant and Iva (Roland) Williams.
A 1941 graduate of Knightstown High School, he worked for General Motors and retired in 1985 after 43 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was privileged to be a participant in the Indy Honor Flight and was a member of the Knightstown American Legion for 77 years and the Greenfield VFW. He was a Knightstown volunteer fireman for 31 years. Lewis was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing golf, loved watching western movies and was always helping with projects. He and his wife spent many winters in Ft. Myers, FL.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Jim) Jordan of Anderson and Jeannie Keith of Ft. Myers, Fl; grandson, Kyle Jordan; great grandson, Tyler Jordan; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn Merchant; grandson, Scott A. Reece; granddaughter, Jama Jordan; siblings, Paul, Charles and Richard Merchant.
Services will be at 3:30 pm November 17, 2022, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until time of service.
