Lilburn Parmley, 79, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 23, 2009 at his home following an extended illness. He was born September 25, 1929 in Parnell, KY a son of the late Roscoe and Gertie Lee (Humble) Parmley.

Lilburn was born and raised in Parnell, KY and has resided in New Castle for the past 62 years. He was employed by Chrysler, Pan American Bridge Factory, Westinghouse and retired from ABB. Lilburn loved to work in his garden, fish and do yard work. He also enjoyed wood working, small herd livestock and spending time with his grandchildren. In earlier years, he loved attending basketball games at Shenandoah High School in row 2 seat 1. Lilburn attended Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church.

Lilburn is survived by his loving wife of 53 years: Joyce (Peavler) Parmley of New Castle; 5 children: Sam (wife: Lisa) Parmley of Mooreland; Roy (wife: Bridget) Parmley of Anderson; Brenda (husband: Bruce) Shaffer of Sulphur Springs; Donna (husband: Roger) Shrum of Kokomo; Tracy Parmley of New Castle; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Esther Davis of Selma; Genive Koger, Ruth Baker, Elvis Parmley, Zella Parmley of Parnell, KY; Andrew Parmley, Walter Parmley, Vannie Hatfield and Pelba Bell of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Norvel and Ingrom Parmley.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church with Walter Bell and Pastor Bob Pavey officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
