Lois Joanne (Jody) Burk, 79, New Castle, passed away on Wednesday at Henry County Hospital after a short illness. She was born on July 5th, 1931, a daughter of William and Elizabeth Sweigart and was a lifelong resident of New Castle.
Jody worked at the Rose Bowl and Meeks florist. She was an avid crafter and loved to create beautiful flower arrangements. She read and collected Nora Roberts’ novels and enjoyed playing Bingo and cards. She enjoyed fishing and her children recall many fun times camping at Sandy Beach Camp ground.
She is survived by a son, David (Mike) Burk (wife Dorothy) of Orlando, Florida; a daughter, Nancy Newman of New Castle; a son Paul R. Burk (wife Myra) of Poplar Grove, Illinois; a son Jeffrey E. Burk (wife April) of New Castle; her sister Freda Turner (Sweigart) of New Castle; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grand children and 1 great- great grand son. She is also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was married in 1950 to her beloved husband, David Louis Burk who preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her 6 brothers and 4 of her sisters.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Elliot Cemetery in New Castle with Pastor Monte Vincent officiating. Burial will occur immediately following the service. Family and friends are welcomed to attend. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com
