Lois U. Davis, 87, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Friday, October 12, 2012. She was born in Russel County, Kentucky, April 5, 1925, grew up in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late William Daniel and Sally Thurston Carnes.
She was a 1943 graduate of New Castle High School. She was employed by Indiana Bell and worked in both the New Castle and Muncie office. She retired from Muncie in 1982 with 36 ½ years of service. She was a past member of Professional Business Women’s, a lifetime member of Telecom Pioneers, a member of the Ma Bells Club and a member of Communication Workers. She loved traveling, gardening, spending time with family and grandchildren, fishing and playing cards with friends in Florida.
She is survived by a son: Donald Wayne (wife, Brenda) Davis; two grandchildren, Donald William Davis and Sherry E. Davis; two brothers: Cordell (wife: Janice) Carnes of Middletown and Homer Carnes of New Castle; a special sister-in-law: Ruth (husband, Hershel) Upchurch of The Villages, Florida; special brother-in-law: Jack Sanders of Brazil, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donald E. Davis in 2004. Until his death she and her husband split their residence between New Castle and Fruitland Park, Florida for the past 20 years. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth R. Carnes, and William C. Carnes and two sisters Jane Evelyene Carnes and Norma Jean Sanders.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Reverend Thomas Current officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
