Lola Brooks “Brooksie” Hamilton, 88, of New Castle passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at her home. She was born April 14, 1929 in Nepton, KY to the late Edward and Blanche (Hawkins) Mitchell.
She was formerly employed at the sewing factory in Greenfield, and Fannin’s Laundromat in Knightstown. Brooksie was a former member of the Red Hat Society in New Castle and Fort Meade, FL and formerly attended Knightstown Christian Church. She enjoyed shuffle board, BINGO, reading, collecting green depression glass, and going to garage sales.
She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Hamilton of New Castle, who was with her when she passed away; son, Jack (Jeana) Hamilton of Sumter, SC; two granddaughters, Lea Brooks (Chris) Thompson of Sumter, SC; Shelby Hamilton of Austin, TX; two great- grandsons, two nieces, Carolyn (James) Avery of Crestview Hills, KY and Melissa (Brian) Jimison of Russellville, OH; nephew, Mark (Julie) McCord of Georgetown, OH; and several nieces and nephews by marriage.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Roy Clayton Hamilton, three sisters, Ruby (Roy) Yazell, Etta Jo (Phil) McCord, infant Lydia C. Mitchell; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mamie (L.O.) Davis, Jay Hamilton, infant Arlie Hamilton, Orville Hamilton, Ora Hamilton, Elza (Lillian Mitchell) Hamilton, Pauline (Mitchell) Porter, Nancy (Russell) Hunt, Glen (Sarah) Hamilton, Myrt (Arthur) Logan, and Lona Mae (Orville) Porter.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
