Lola Mae Mills-Cross

Lola Mae Mills-Cross, 80, of New Castle went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2022 at Henry Community Health. She was born October 9, 1942 in Clinton County in Albany, Kentucky, to the late William Addison and Ruby Jewell (Hudson) Mills.

She lived in Albany, Kentucky until she met her husband, Joe Shelby Cross and they moved to New Castle. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she attended regularly until her illness made her unable to attend. She was an avid quilter and made many quilts throughout the years for her family. She loved fishing, camping and gardening. She loved spending time with family and having big family dinners, where she could cook her big meals and make her pies.

Survivors include four children, Kathy Jo Cross-Hurst, Sharon (Kenny) Harmon, Vickie Clayborn and James William Cross (fiancé, Amy); six grandchildren, Pamela (William) Phillips, Andy Hurst, Christy (Jason) Hooper, Michael (Tonya) Slover, Jonathon (Jeff) Cross and Kasandra Cross; ten great grandchildren, Derek (Amber) Sutton, Darren Sutton (partner, Brandon), Laurissa Sutton, Dylan Lowery, Nathan Lowery (girlfriend, Alissa), Isaac Hurst, Alysha Hurst, Masson Slover, Morgan Slover and Hunter James Kaufman; one great great grandchild, Draven Keith Sutton; two step great grandchildren, Nevaeh Allen and Gracie Russell; two step great great grandchildren, Enslie Volz and Zane Sutton; one sister, Neldia Dorine Daniel and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joe Shelby Cross in 2012, son-in-law, Johnny Lee Clayborn, whom she thought of as a son; three sisters, Ella Mauzie Ferguson, Opal Ruth Dixon and Lucille Rigney; and two brothers, Samual J. Mills and James Earl “Jay” Mills.

Services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Kenny Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share a memory of Lola at www.hinsey-brown.com .
