Lonnie Worthington

September 20, 1956 — May 30, 2012

Lonnie Worthington, age 55, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family, following an extended battle with cancer. He was born September 20, 1956 in Jamestown, Tennessee to the late Harold Glenn and Thelma Jean (Lawson) Worthington.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed traveling to NASCAR races with his favorite driver being Dale Earnhardt Jr.. He had a very extensive collection of replica NASCAR cars and collectables. He worked in the metal industry for 20 years, most recently at Gammons Metal Manufacturing Company in Indianapolis. Lonnie’s latest employer was Roehl Transport, where he was employed as an over the road truck driver. He was a member of the Spiceland Pike Church of God where he was very involved and ran the sound booth. When Lonnie accepted Christ, it made a huge change and impact in his life. Lonnie’s favorite things were his simple life and being with family, especially his grandchildren. He also had a special love for his canine companions Tylo, Harley and Dixie. Lonnie enjoyed wood working and watching old westerns on TV.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Tammy (Upchurch) Worthington of New Castle; a son, Aaron McGee of New Castle; two granddaughters, Abbigail and Raeanna McGee both of Hartford City; newborn grandson, Asher Allen Flowers-McGee of Dunkirk; siblings, Jerry Lynn (wife, Jaunita) Worthington of Ringold, GA, Glen Allen Worthington of Indianapolis, Tony Michael (wife, Teresa) Worthington of Spencer, TN; grand-mother-in-law, Anna Cole of New Castle; mother-in-law, Glenda Mason of Mt. Summit; sisters-in-law, Kathy Poe of Muncie, Kerry (husband, Carmelo) Malpica of Indianapolis, Trina (husband, Brett) Estes of Bloomfield; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; two children, Jimmy Walker and Nina Howard; five additional grandchildren all of TN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Ann Worthington; brother, William Ernest Worthington; special aunt, Emma Worthington.

Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Spiceland Pike Church of God in New Castle, with Reverend Larry Stevison officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Lonnie Worthington Memorial Fund c/o Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 S. Memorial Dr., New Castle, Indiana 47362, with envelopes available at the church.
