Louis Blattner

Louis Blattner, age 82, of New Castle passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 1, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Leopold and Louise (Soeder) Blattner.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the New Castle School Corp.maintenance department in 1995. Lou was a member of the Breakfast Optimist for many years and was awarded Optimist of the Year in 2001 and was Lt. Governor Zone 9 in 2002. He was a present and past member of Mooreland Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Henry County Shriners. Lou was past President of Babe Ruth League. He also enjoyed wood working and helped organize the Henry County Sheriff Mounted Patrol.

Survivors include sons, Eric (wife, Tammy) Blattner of New Castle and John Christopher (wife, Sonda) Blattner of Kokomo; grandchildren, Whitney (wife, Robbin) Blattner, Ryan Blattner, Kara Blattner of Kokomo; step grandson, Michael Cole; step granddaughter, Autumn Cole; great grandchildren, Shelbi and Jaycee Blattner, both of New Castle; Isabelle and Lucy Blattner, both of Kokomo, and Sophie Cole of New Castle; two step great grandchildren, Brandi Carnes and Kristafer Carnes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Blattner; and a sister, Anna Stephan.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Denny Neal and Everett Cole officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
