Lucille Painter, age 92, formerly of Spiceland, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Addison Place in New Castle. She was born April 14, 1922 in Rush County to the late Clifton and Fay (Leonard) Jarrett.
She had worked as a legal secretary at Millikan Hodson & Harvey and Yergin & Yergin attorneys. She was a member of Spiceland Friends Meeting where she was involved in many areas. Lucille enjoyed building doll houses, crafts, painting and needle point. She also loved traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Charles (Kathy) Painter of Spiceland; two daughters, Mary Ellen VanOsdol of Indianapolis and Judy Smith of Springport; grandchildren, Michelle (Randy) Clapp, Monica (Dennis) Peavie, Susan Adams, Dawn (John) Skeens, Mike (Linda) VanOsdol, Jill (Craig) Selvey, Tony (Jena) Smith; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Carolyn (Joe) Lohse; and a brother in law, Lowell (Marguerite) Painter.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell A. Painter, whom she married May 5, 1940; brother, James Jarrett; sister, Mildred Cherry; and a son in law, Gary Smith.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Angels at Addison Place and Diann Young from Hospice Advantage.
A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Spiceland Friends Meeting with David Brock and Cathy Harris officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Circle Grove Cemetery, Spiceland. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Spiceland Friends Meeting or Spiceland Alumni.
