Lucy Barnett

Lucy A. Barnett, 92, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Glen Oaks of New Castle following an extended illness. She was born August 14, 1917 in Clinton County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Claude and Mary Ann (Pennycuff) Sidwell.

Lucy retired from World Bestos-Firestone after approximately 30 years of employment. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and served there for many years on the funeral dinner committee. Lucy will miss her church and congregation dearly. Lucy liked gardening, crocheting, embroidering and especially enjoyed reading her Bible. She was well known for being the head of her family and cared deeply for all of them.

She is survived by her son: Gary R. (wife, Joyce) Barnett of Gas City; grandchildren: Catherine Lamb of Indianapolis, Susan (husband, Nathan) Salyer of Gas City, Gary (wife, Kris) Barnett Jr. of Crestview, FL, Teresa (husband, John) Pionke of Avon, Kelly (husband, Ron) Levensky of Gas City; great grandchildren: Christy Williams of Indianapolis, Ryan (wife, Aarika) Loy of Norfolk, VA, Brittany Barker of Indianapolis, Lindsey and Danielle Barnett Crestview, FL, Jessica (husband, Matt) Moon of Charleston, SC, Stephanie Levensky of Gas City; great great grandchildren: Cody, Kailey, Aubrea, Sydney, Madison and Dylan; sisters: Erma (husband, Bill) Swift of New Castle, Effie Clark of New Port Richey, FL, Betty (husband, Arvee) Piercy of Monticello, KY, Joyce Moles of Albany, KY; brothers: J.R. Sidwell of Cookeville, TN, Don (wife, Patty) Sidwell of Monticello, KY, Jimmy (wife, Loretta) Sidwell of Red Boiling Springs, TN; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Garnet R. “Barney” Barnett; six sisters and seven brothers.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the funeral home. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Glen Oaks of New Castle for the excellent care Lucy received while there.
