Lucy M Groce

Lucy M. Groce, age 85, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born September 29, 1926 in Russell Springs, Kentucky to the late Russell L. and Elan E. (Jones) Purvis.

A lifelong New Castle resident, she retired as City of New Castle Utilities manager. She was a member of the Women’s Democrat Organization. She love to read and was an excellent baker, she was also an avid card player with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Herman Groce of New Castle; sons, Herman (wife, Faith) Groce, Jr. and Ronald K. (wife, Margene) Groce both of New Castle; daughters, Phyllis E. (husband, James) Koger of Muncie, Wanda M. (husband, Larry) Williams of Avon, and Patricia J. Groce (special friend: Chuck Minear) of High Point, NC; grandchildren, Jessie Mahmoudi, David Fitzpatrick, Jason Groce, Amber Chambers, Anessa Meadows, Zackariah Medford, James Wesley Koger, Julie Williams, Angel Goodpaster and Andrew Groce; twelve great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Juanita Purvis of New Castle; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Estel, Earl and Donald Purvis; two sisters, Gladys and her husband Gerald Eckrote and Ruth Bond; one grandson, Daniel Groce; and one great grandson, Trace Chambers.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mike Maddy officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Sunday, June 17 at the funeral home.
